Structural composition
Bearing shell: It is the part of the sliding bearing that directly contacts the journal, usually made of wear-resistant materials, such as copper alloy, babbitt alloy, etc. The inner surface of the bearing shell forms a sliding friction pair with the journal, which bears the load transmitted by the shaft.
Bearing seat: It is used to fix the bearing shell and provide support and positioning for the bearing shell. The bearing seat is usually made of cast iron, cast steel or other metal materials, with sufficient strength and rigidity to ensure that the bearing shell and the shaft can be stably supported during operation.
Lubrication system: It includes lubricating oil or grease, oil groove, oil hole, etc. Its function is to form an oil film between the journal and the bearing shell to reduce friction and wear, and at the same time play a role in cooling and sealing.
Working principle
Fluid lubrication principle: When the shaft rotates in the sliding bearing, the lubricating oil is brought into the gap between the journal and the bearing shell. As the speed of the shaft increases, the lubricating oil forms a layer of oil film with a certain pressure in the gap, separating the journal from the bearing shell, so that the friction between them changes from solid friction to liquid friction. The friction force of this liquid friction is very small, which can effectively reduce energy loss and wear.
Boundary lubrication principle: In some low-speed, heavy-load or poor lubrication conditions, the oil film between the journal and the bearing may not be fully formed or maintained. At this time, the micro-convex bodies on the surface of the journal and the bearing will directly contact each other, forming boundary lubrication. Under the boundary lubrication state, the additives in the lubricating oil will form an extremely thin protective film on the metal surface to reduce direct friction and wear between the metals.
Classification
Classification by load direction
Radial sliding bearings: Mainly bear radial loads and are used to support the radial force of the rotating shaft.
Thrust sliding bearings: Mainly bear axial loads and are used to bear the axial thrust of the rotating shaft.
Classification by lubrication method
Fluid-lubricated sliding bearings: Lubrication is achieved by relying on the fluid dynamic pressure or static pressure oil film formed by the lubricating oil between the journal and the bearing.
Boundary lubricated sliding bearings: When the lubrication conditions are poor, lubrication is achieved by relying on the boundary film formed on the metal surface by the additives in the lubricating oil.
Self-lubricating sliding bearings: The bearing material itself has self-lubricating properties and does not require an additional lubrication system, such as oil-containing bearings, graphite bearings, etc.
Features
Advantages
Good stability: The working surface of the sliding bearing is relatively smooth, which can provide relatively stable support during operation and reduce vibration and noise.
Higher load-bearing capacity: Under the same size, sliding bearings usually have higher load-bearing capacity than rolling bearings and can withstand larger radial and axial loads.
Good impact resistance: It can withstand impact loads well and is suitable for some occasions with relatively harsh working conditions.
Simple structure: Compared with rolling bearings, the structure of sliding bearings is relatively simple, and the manufacturing and installation costs are low.
Disadvantages
High friction loss: During startup and low-speed operation, the friction loss of sliding bearings is large and the efficiency is low.
High lubrication requirements: A good lubrication system is required to ensure its normal operation. If the lubrication is poor, it is easy to cause the bearing to wear or even burn.
High maintenance cost: It is necessary to regularly check and replace lubricating oil, bearings and other components, and the maintenance workload is large.
